Why should I upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017?

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 was released on 24 October 2016 and we have been buzzing with excitement over the new functionalities that come with this new release. Most notably, NAV 2017 features an Office 365 add-in and is embedded with Power BI to make data analytics simpler (and prettier).

Office 365 Add-In

If your organisation uses Office 365, you’re in luck. NAV 2017 comes with some great Office 365 Add-Ins that you will find especially useful, such as being able to invoice your customers based on scheduled entries on your calendar within Outlook or being able to edit the lists that you have on NAV in Excel.

Embedded Power BI

Now here’s where we really start talking. NAV 2017 comes with embedded Power BI functions so that you can easily create the charts and reports that you need to see and put them on your Role Centre. It’s not just about menus and buttons anymore. Power BI gives you pie charts and bar graphs too. You can now get all the information you need at a single glance whenever you log into your Role Centre.

Now you might be wondering “that’s all fantastic, but what’s the REAL incentive for me to shift to NAV 2017?” And here’s where it really gets juicy.

Extensions

With the previous release in 2016, NAV introduced extensions to allow customisation of your NAV without altering its original application objects. That is huge news for two reasons: 1. hassle-free future upgrades, and 2. more solution flexibility.

In 2017’s release, NAV has taken extensions to another level by allowing you (or us) to create extensions within the client itself. Now your IT managers can rearrange fields, rename groups and reposition elements according to your needs using drag and drop. Now there’s a way to keep those precious support hours for something better!

Improved Mobile Client

NAV2016 saw the release of the mobile and tablet clients to allow users who need to work on the go to do so. But with the latest release, you can create sales orders or invoices, check inventory status, approve purchase and sales orders.  With so many new cool features on the mobile and tablet clients, they are no longer just weak cousins of the Windows and Web clients.
